From 1st April 2024, the National Living Wage will experience its largest increase in cash terms since its introduction, rising from £10.42 to £11.44 per hour a 9.8 % increase.

In addition, those aged 21 and over will now be entitled to the National Living Wage. Previously, only those aged 23 and over were entitled to the National Living Wage.

The greatest minimum wage increase has been afforded to 16-17 Year Olds and Apprentices with each experiencing an increase of 21.2%  resulting in a new entitlement of £6.40 per hour.

As of 1st April 2024, all employers must be diligent to ensure that they update payroll  to account for the National Minimum Wage increases.

The following rates apply  as of 1st April 2024:

  • National Living Wage (21 and Over) : £11.44 hourly
  • 18-20 Year Old Rate : £8.60 hourly
  • 16-17 Year Old Rate : £6.40 hourly
  • Apprentice Rate : £6.40 hour

A further change coming into effect in April will be that the Accommodation Offset will increase to £9.99 daily.
