Certain employment legislation is usually updated annually to take account of inflation.

The Employment Rights (Increase of Limits) Order (Northern Ireland) 2022

From 6 April 2022, the Order increases limits applicable to certain awards and payments under employment rights legislation in Northern Ireland in line with the Retail Prices Index, for example:

  • Maximum amount of “a week’s pay” for the purpose of calculating a redundancy payment or for various other awards including the basic award of compensation for unfair dismissal increases from £566 to £594
  • Limit on amount of compensatory award for unfair dismissal increases from £89,669 to £94,063

Limit on the amount of guarantee payment payable to an employee in respect of any day



Amount of award for unlawful inducement relating to trade union membership or activities, or for unlawful inducement relating to collective bargaining



Minimum amount of basic award of compensation where dismissal is unfair by virtue of Article 132(1)(a) and (b), 132A(1)(d)(2) , 133(1), 134 or 136(1) of the Employment Rights (Northern Ireland) Order 1996



Limit on the amount in respect of any one week payable to an employee in respect of a debt which relates to the insolvency of their employer
